Matt Syverson receives New Horizon Ranch’s Faithful Steward Award

The Sound Stewardship Principles culminate in Principle Seven: Give generously. Generosity is at the very heart of our business. It’s the reason our firm is based on a flat-fee structure—so we can encourage giving without a conflict of interest. Helping our clients share their resources is one of the most rewarding parts of the job. We love seeing how giving transforms our clients’ lives, and our lives, too!

So we’re very proud to announce our founder, Matt Syverson, was recently recognized for his philanthropic service at New Horizon Ranch.

New Horizon Ranch is a therapeutic horseback riding center for riders of all abilities in Rantoul, Kansas. It provides a variety of services, including therapeutic riding for children with disabilities, senior citizens, veterans, at-risk youth and more. The ranch is currently raising funds to build an indoor arena, so their programs can continue to benefit their riders, no matter the weather.

The Syverson family has been involved with New Horizon Ranch since 2009, when they enrolled three-year-old Lily in therapeutic riding lessons. The rest of the family soon wanted to join in the fun. For several years, all six Syversons would travel to the ranch together once a week to ride.

In 2011, the New Horizon team asked Matt to join their board as its treasurer. Since then, he’s helped the organization manage its finances and steward its resources—including helping fundraise for their ongoing indoor arena building campaign. He’s passing the torch on to the next treasurer soon, and hopes to see the indoor arena completed in the near future.

At an emotional presentation at the Ranch’s recent Boots N Bling event, New Horizon Ranch CEO Brian Miller instituted The Faithful Steward Award, named for its first recipient, Matt.

“This gentleman is all about stewardship,” Miller explained. “In honor of your passion, dedication and commitment to changing lives…We can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done.”

Matt was surprised to find out about the award and humbled to be its first awardee. “It’s been wonderful to be able to support the ranch in many ways over the past ten years,” Matt said. “Including getting to see the indoor arena being built, so you don’t have to cancel lessons. It’s been fun as the treasurer—as the nerdy money guy—to see that all come together.”
